About Joe

I am a Computer Scientist with over ten years of programming experience. I first started in college when I learnt to make a game of Chess over the course of a term, and fell in love. I always tried to not only develop my technical knowledge, but also my social skills, ensuring I can positively interact with anyone, regardless of age, technical background or other factors.

I come from a data analysis background, using Python to perform complex data-related tasks. My most successful data analysis took place after I worked in the Premier League for a year, in which I analysed the popularity of a certain technology within Football, and results from my studies influenced the Premier League rules for the following season!

I also have a huge interest in AI systems and using Language Models to provide solutions, ideas, or otherwise enhance learning. I view these tools as educational programs when used correctly, that not only save time but also encourage critical thinking and imagination.

Outside of computers, I love to cycle and cook - Thai food is my favourite, also with a soft spot for Vietnemese, so I am always on the lookout for new restaurants or supermarkets to fuel the kitchen!

About the lesson

I am of the opinion that the best way to learn to code, is to write code. Therefore I approach lessons in a fun and hands on way, which encourages students to write code, make mistakes, learn to fix errors and develop not only their understanding of the language, but also of wider computer systems in general. I am easy to get on with, and use humour and gamification to enhance learning.
I have experience teaching both Primary and Secondary levels, tailoring lesson activities to the age and ability of students. My background is in Python and Machine Learning, using AI to enhance programming, and writing scripts to save time with repetetive tasks. Lessons will last 45mins - 1 hour, and will be a combination of learning and practical activities.
