About Anshi

I am now going to be a first-year college student, but when I was in high school, I used to be a volunteer wherein I taught underprivileged kids English, and I had one student, a 21-year-old guy, from Punjab who came to me as an underconfident kid and told me that he is hopeless in this field and he is only here because his mother forced him and it would be better for me to just sit silently for the designated 40 minutes and let him go and he would not give me a bad review as he hated the language. I agreed and told him that I didn't mind, reduces my workload but just asked him his reason behind the disdain for the language. Turns out he had applied to a company for a job as a sales assistant and upon learning about his weakness in the English language, they insulted him and rejected him outright. That session we didn't do anything but I extracted a promise out of him that we would meet again next week because there was a minimum number of hours we had to fulfill. I met him again and he slowly started opening up to me, started learning the language and after 10 weeks, he could hold a full formal and informal conversation for 10 minutes, which is my final test. Upon hearing his story, I promised myself I would never let something as simple as a language be a barrier for anybody else because not knowing English does not make you any less intelligent or capable, but knowing English definitely adds to your set of skills.

About the lesson

I believe having a good command over the English language is a soft skill which automatically puts you at a higher standing, especially when you are looking for job opportunities because English is a global language and the most effective method of communication. So in my class everyone is welcome, whether you are a beginner with no knowledge or an intermediate student with some grasp on the language.
