Perfect! As a student of Youyun, I have experienced remarkable growth through her dynamic and inspiring teaching. Currently studying at the Rhode Island School of Design, Youyun not only demonstrates deep academic expertise in fashion design and textile innovation but also bridges creative concepts with hands-on practice, guiding me to turn abstract ideas into tangible work.
Her classes strike a perfect balance between creative exploration and technical skill-building. Whether teaching garment construction or leading textile experimentation, she encourages us to break boundaries and explore new possibilities between material and form. Under her guidance, I once transformed discarded fabrics into a woven, sculptural yet wearable top—a process that showed me design is not just about making clothes, but about creating a mode of expression.
Youyun’s keen eye for fashion trends and her focus on sustainable design have also helped me develop a broader perspective on the industry. She is more than a technical instructor—she is a mentor who inspires thoughtful and meaningful creation. Highly recommended for any student looking to grow both creatively and professionally!Perfect! Yoyo is great! She is patient and takes the time to make sure that she really understands my needs and provides me with mentorship and other sources so that I can continue to grow even outside of class.
Perfect! Youyun is an inspiring and forward-thinking tutor in fashion and textiles. As a current student at the Rhode Island School of Design, she brings not only a solid academic foundation but also a fresh, contemporary creative perspective and a keen sensitivity to materials. In her classes, I learned not only about garment construction and techniques, but also how to explore and express fabric as a core language of design.
Yoyo excels at integrating textile experimentation with fashion design, guiding me through various material manipulations, knit and weave modifications, and surface texture development—helping me cultivate a more personal and innovative design direction. Her insights into contemporary design trends and sustainable materials were particularly inspiring, and she offered many fresh, thoughtful perspectives on balancing conceptual depth with wearability.
Her teaching style is warm, open, and energetic. She understands students' creative challenges from a peer's perspective, yet guides with the critical thinking and rigor characteristic of RISD’s approach. If you’re looking for a tutor who is not only skilled but also full of ideas and able to connect you with cutting-edge design thinking, Yoyo is an excellent choice. She doesn’t just teach you how to make clothes—she teaches you how to think of clothing as a medium.Perfect! Youyun was welcoming and kind, with a very reassuring and positive tone. I felt encouraged and supported right away, and the structure of the consultation made everything feel clear and easy. I’m looking forward to learning with her.

Yoyo is an amazing mentor with a lot of textile techniques under belt. With her extended background in some of the best fashion schools in the US in textiles and fashion design, she has incredible depth of knowledge in manipulating fabric and textile/fabric techniques and she is able to help her students learn in the way that best fits them and shares tips and skills that truly works! Working with her is like making a friends rather then just a mentor.
