About Jalyn

I’m Jalyn, a science and math tutor with four years of experience teaching elementary and middle school students. I have placed nationally in Anatomy & Physiology and am a top 10% performer on the AMC 8, experiences that shape how I teach and challenge my students. As a tutor, I pride myself on being reliable, organized, and invested in each student’s growth. I create a supportive learning environment where questions are encouraged and progress is celebrated. My goal is to help students build confidence in their abilities, develop effective study habits, and enjoy learning science and math.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I focus on building deep understanding rather than memorization. I start by identifying what the student already knows and where confusion begins, then break concepts down into clear, intuitive steps. I emphasize why methods work, using visuals, real-world examples, and multiple solution paths so students learn how to think, not just follow procedures.

A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in and warm-up problem, followed by guided instruction on one core concept. We then work through practice problems together, gradually shifting toward independent problem-solving. I often end lessons with a challenge or competition-style question to build confidence and sharpen critical thinking, especially for AMC 8 and Science Olympiad preparation.

What sets me apart is my combination of national-level Science Olympiad experience and experience teaching elementary and middle school students. I know how to challenge advanced learners while supporting students who need concepts broken down step by step. I adapt my pacing and approach to each student so lessons stay engaging, efficient, and encouraging.

My lessons are designed for elementary to middle school students, including those preparing for Science Olympiad, AMC 8, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus concepts, as well as students looking to strengthen foundations or explore material beyond their current class.
